4. Double Page Spread Analysis

This is a Double Page Spread of a magazine called NME.

This double page spread looks like a band review. They used 7 pictures which I think that it is very scattered to maybe reflect on the type of genre this music magazine is.
The main image is coloured, however the rest are in monochrome, which gives a touch of classic into it. Its a four column format to follow the codes and conventions of a magazine.
I find this page very simple yet sophisticated because of the way the images are laid out on the page.

4. Contents Page Analysis

This is a Contents page of an NME magazine.

The house style of this magazine is still kept the same which is the same as the one on the front cover, (black, white and red).
I find this page cluttered and full of text, which I think that its not appropriate for a contents page. This could be done on purpose so that it is attractable for the target market of rock music and also so that it is not out of place of the main theme.
The text of this magazine are clear, and bold to suggests the boldness and angriness of this magazine which reflects on the music genre.
The features are numbered which correspond to the number of the picture this is effective as it gives the reader a taste of what is to to come without giving to much away forcing the reader to read on.
NME keeps their layout the same throughout their magazine so that it's easily recognisable for the reader.

4. Front Page Analysis

This is a front cover of an NME magazine.

In this cover, I noticed that this magazine is aimed at young adults because of the use of colloquial language.
The masthead of this magazine is NME. It is bold, big, and plain.
The title reflects to the type of music it promotes, which is rock. The colour of the masthead is kept the same (red) so that people can recognise the magazine easily, but also because to reflect on what the main image is wearing.
The barcode is placed on the bottom left of the magazine which follows the codes and conventions. However, the date and price is on the top third of the magazine. Maybe because so that it can be easily seen by the reader. This magazine was released on 11 September 2010 and the price is £2.30 which I think that the price is fairly cheap.
the main image for this magazine uses long mid shot of the 2 members of the Oasis band.
I think that this magazine is focusing more on the left artist as the red hoodie that he is wearing stands out so much on the page.
This magazine challenged the codes and conventions as they attempted to place the cover lines in the middle instead of the side. This could reflect to the selling line of this magazine, by saying 'messiest' as the text are kind of scattered all over the page.
The pug suggest a story about the two models on the front cover which could relate on how these models are positioned.

3. Double Page Spread Analysis

This is the Double Page Spread of a magazine called KERRANG!
The interview is about a man Trace Cynus in a band called METRO STATION.

On the first page of the double page spread, KERRANG! shows an image of one of the famous artist in the band.
The second page contains the article which has 3 columns to follow the codes and conventions of a magazine.
The big font on the second page captures the eye of the audience, 'About a Boy'. At the bottom of the second page they have also included a box looking like a dog tag which shows snippets about this artist.
The colours that are used are brown, black and white. The white is for the article so that it can be easily seen on the page as the background is fairly dark, and the brown colour is for the title so that it stands out on the page.
Also the font type used is interesting which shows vulnerability.
The article is about tattoo which links to the image as the location of the image is that he is at a tattoo shop, and this helps the article as the artist is showing his tattoos on his body.

3. Contents Page Analysis

This is a Contents Page of a magazine called KERRANG!

At the top of the page is a black box with a contrasting bold yellow font so as to make the page more noticeable to the reader and evidently shows them what the page is about; which is the Contents page.
The colour scheme of this page is yellow, black and white with a touch of red at the bottom right corner.
The yellow and black work in reverse of each other which makes the page look more artistic.
Like many magazines, on the left hand corner there is a quick note from the Editor. This is alongside a picture of the front cover. The type of language used is chatty and informal. This is effective as it relates to the target audience and offers a more personal approach to the reader as they feel they can connect and relate to how the editor is writing. It’s considered conventional if at the end the editor signs the note as it builds a friendship between the reader and editor.
Readers do not want to be wasting valuable reading time on finding out what page a specific article is on. Therefore by dividing it all up they are getting rid of the risk of confusion and time wasting. This is the same with the NME magazine. However it can also look a little bit over done and messy.
The features are numbered which correspond to the number of the picture this is effective as it gives the reader a taste of what is to to come without giving to much away forcing the reader to read on.
Small subheadings are used and these are shown in bold black font to show their importance for the reader to find exactly what they are looking for.

3. Front Page Analysis

This is the Front Page of a KERRANG magazine.

Kerrang! is the ultimate Access All Areas pass into the heart of rock 'n' roll excess. Kerrang is published 51 times a year.
The layout of the magazine has a more rocky, metal style. They have used boxes with cover lines and have used some pictures with snippets to make the reader want to read on.
They use top and  bottom banner article to suggest who the band artists are that the reader will read in this issue.
The masthead has an effect of shattered glass which gives a feel that the music style is loud enough to break glass.
The main cover line 'Iron Maiden' uses a distressed effect to emphasise their rocky/metal attitude.
The style of font used on there cover lines is consistent and the same style throughout the magazine.
The magazine has a rock attitude and mainly appeals to teens. This I think is because of there modern style, and layout.
It stands out with its bright colours such as yellow and red.
The main image on the front cover challenges the codes and conventions because it is unsual that magazines uses cartoons as their main image. Most front cover magazines contains a famous artist to sell the magazine however, for this issue the designer might be aiming for different people people this time because this cover looks more like an anime/cartoon magazine. People who reads anime/cartoon magazines could be engaged to buy this magazine.

2. Double Page Spread Analysis

This is a Double Page Spread of a magazine called NME.
The interview is about the band MYSTERY JETS.

On the first page of the double page spread, NME! contains the article about the band.
The second page contains a picture of the Mystery Jets band.
The big font captures the eye of the audience, 'SEX LIVES OF THE MYSTERY MEN'. Under the title, it contains an information on what the interview is going to be about.
The article is laid out in four columns.
On the second page of the magazine, there is a quote from the interview. This stands out on the second page rather than the image maybe because the designer wants the readers to focus more on the text rather than the image itself.
The use of colours relates to the house style of the image which are light brown, and black. The black is for the text, the light brown is for the title which links to the image on the right as the models are wearing brown as well.
